The B Series Brazilian Championship, commonly known as Brasileirão Serie B or simply Serie B, officially known as Brasileirão Chevrolet as Serie A for sponsorship, is the second tier of the Brazilian league soccer system. The format of the competition has changed almost every year since its creation in 1971. In some years it has not been played at all. Since 2006, it has been played by 20 teams in a double-round tournament. The four best teams were promoted to the Brazilian Serie A Championship and the last four teams were relegated to the Serie C Brasileiro Championship.
