Lionel Messi sets new LaLiga record In Barcelona between Girona clash

The Barcelona captain has taken another step in the match between Barcelona and Girona.

Lionel Messi marked the history of La Liga with his appearance in Barcelona during his encounter with Girona. The Argentine made his 423rd appearance in the league while he was among the team that would face Sunday's rival at Camp Nou.

Messi later became the only non-Spanish player who played the most league games with his former teammate Dani Alves before kick-off. The Brazilian defender played 422 games in La Liga before joining Juventus in 2016.

To commemorate this special day, Lionel Messi opened the scoring in Barcelona in the 19th minute. The Blaugrana skipper pushed a pass from Arturo Vidal to the penalty area to win his fifth goal of the season.

Curiously, the strike was Messi's number 300 in 258 appearances with the No. 10 Barcelona jersey. The striker also scored 104 passes en route.
